Effective Ways to Clean Pots and Pans

Though some people like cooking and everybody loves eating, not everyone is excited to do the dishwashing that comes afterward. One of the terrors of dishwashing is getting to the part where you need to wash pots and pans that were burnt or scorched. The dishwasher would not just do the trick and you would need to wash them by hand. At times, you just have too many dishes that they all won’t fit in the machine. Luckily, this article will give you some tips to deal with removing burnt food and more from pots and pans. Check them out below.

 

1st Tip: For burnt food stuck at the bottom, heat the pot or pan.

 

You might have forgotten to stir the food and just let it boil. This would cause some of the food particles to get burnt and stuck at the bottom of your pot or pan. Scrubbing it too hard might damage it and would leave some unwanted scratch marks on your pot or pan. To avoid damaging it, put the pot or pan back on the stove and put some water in it, just enough to cover the bottom. Turn the heat on high and let it boil. The heat and water would loosen the food and would make it softer. It would then be easier to scrape the stuck burnt food using a rubber or wooden spatula or spoon. This works best for stainless steel and non-stick pans and pots.

 

2nd Tip: Soak your pots and pans before washing.

 

Some cookware is sensitive to detergents and also scrubbing. But, at times, you can’t avoid using strong dishwasher detergents and scrubbing them too hard because of the stuck food at the sides and the bottom. The best way to deal with this is to soak them in water for a few hours or overnight. You can add a bit of dish soap in the water to help remove the grease. Use a non-scratch sponge to wipe off the remaining particles that are still on the pans or pots.

 

3rd Tip: Use baking soda and vinegar for your roasting pans.

 

Baking soda and vinegar are two of the most useful ingredients to have in the house. Not only could they be used in some of your cooking, they can also be used in cleaning. Most people use them separately to clean rugs and remove stains from their walls and floors. But, using them together would be even more effective especially in removing stuck food from your pan. Just sprinkle some baking soda on the surface of the pan. Then pour vinegar solution (1 cup hot water: 1/3 cup of vinegar) onto the baking soda. The reaction of combining those two would remove the particles from the pan.

 

4th Tip: Don’t put your cast iron pots and pans in the dishwasher.

 

In case you use some cast iron cookware, never put them in the dishwasher just because you are too lazy to scrub them. Also, don’t use any detergent to wash it. Just simply use hot water, or boil water in it to loosen the food particles and then brush. Dry it with a paper towel and, while the pot or pan is still warm, apply a bit of vegetable oil on it.
