Steve Gladstone
This is a brief history of myself, Steve Gladstone S.M.T
Kickboxing / UK warriors coach. {4th degree WKA}.
I began training at age 19 (1987) in Kyoukushin Kai Karate
in the knockdown discipline at the famous South African Bushido
dojo in Durban. By the age of 23 I had achieved black belt
1st Dan and a record of 26 fights in knockdown and Natal (regional
colours) for this sport.
From this grounding, we pioneered the sport of full contact
kickboxing in S.A and under these rules I achieved a record
of 29 fights, 4 losses, an amateur title (the first ever middle
wt) and a pro title.
I wanted more and approached my trainer; the head of the
I.S.K.A, Paddy Carson, to get me a low kick bout as this is
were my heart was due to my grounding in knockdown. (During
this time we had begun pro boxing training, myself having
had 2 bouts, 1 win, 1 loss).
I fought under I.S.K.A Oriental rules (low kick) 8 fights,
1 loss winning m/dl weight title (s.a).
From this I progressed to being the first fighter to fight
Thai boxing in South Africa in '92 against Malaysian champion
fighting out of the Famous K -1 stable of Steve Kalakoda,
K.O in rd 3 of 5 with head kick.
Total fights=67 - Wins=60,loss=7 - Currently head coach of
S.M.T kickboxing.
